Golden Day

Today is celebrated as Akshaya Tritiya in this part of the world. Ok, you may ask me what is the big deal abt it,

Mythology - The word Akshaya means that which never diminishes - hence beginnings made or valuables bought on this day are considered certain to bring luck and success. Akshaya Tritiya falls on the third day (Tritiya) of the new moon of Vaishakh month. The sun and moon are believed, astrologically, to be at their most exalted brightness that day. This is one of the most auspicious days according to the Hindu calendar. According to the Puranas, this day marks the beginning of the Treta Yug. The birthday of Parashurama, the sixth incarnation of Vishnu falls on this day. It is believed that by doing a good deed on Akshaya Tritiya one can earn Punya (merit) for life. This day is considered auspicious for starting new ventures and making new purchases. Our ancestors passed on the belief that with such good vibrations in the universe, any project or relationship begun that day would be long lasting

Fact - Women in the city raid the jewelry shop. Akshaya Tritiya has been given a commercial spin in recent times. A barrage of advertisements has hit the media and there is more sizzle to summer with jewelers announcing fresh ranges for the day.

Ok what did I do? Nothing...eeeee...OK here goes my conscience - Got a sleek gold ring, a gift from my husband (no I did not force him!).
